They would all soon run in my blood.
And that’s how it all started.
Buoyant Press was born out of a love for paper, patterns, ancient artistry & the medium of a book.
It is an ongoing experiment merging historical crafts of painting on water, with bookbinding, while exploring papery possibilities.
Buoyant Press is also a publishing initiative with a goal of producing compelling limited-edition art books that encourage environmental awareness and celebrate the natural world and people within it.

Buoyant derives from the Spanish word buoyante (boyar), which means to float, (to) exist in-between two forms of matter: gas and liquid, low and high density; being in two places at once. Humans can float on the surface of the water because their lungs are full of air and lift them up, just like balloons do. Floating is a key to marbling—if you know how to do it right, you can make paints flow on the surface of the water too. Buoyant signifies being light, both in weight and spirit. It’s about feeling happy and confident.
